I went to Haiti back in November for my work, and while in Port-au-Prince, stayed at the Hotel Montana. It was one of the nicest hotels in Port-au-Prince, on a hill above the city not far from Petionville.
I found out yesterday that the hotel was completely destroyed. It's all a little nerve-rattling. I am such a lucky guy.
If you can contribute to emergency relief efforts in Haiti, please do. The World Food Program (WFP) has a long record of making a real difference in Haiti. There is a charity that works with the WFP that I recommend: http://www.friendsofwfp.org/
Friends of the World Food Program provides important financial assistance to the WFP. It is a U.S.-based, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that focuses on building support in the United States for the WFP and other hunger relief operations.
